ATVs Practical Utilities

Law enforcement is a fine example of ATV use from a practical standpoint. The police have begun making use of ATVs for patrolling as well as search and rescue. The ability of the ATV to travel off-road in less than perfect road or trail conditions makes the ATV the perfect tool for police in rural areas. In areas where horseback and foot patrol used to be the only option, the ATV can provide a reliable means of travel, and in some cases a much longer range. In a city environment, ATVs play a huge role in crowd control. The ATV has also made beach patrols far easier for enforcement officers. Large areas of sandy beach can be patrolled in a relatively short period of time versus good, old fashioned walking. Firefighters also can reach wooded areas normally off-limits to firetrucks and medical personnel now have a means of assisting and retrieving individuals in need of emergency medical care.

The use of ATVs in agriculture and farm operations is most predominant of all. Small and medium sized farms have made use of ATVs performing tasks previously performed by horses and by good old human power. The application of pesticides has become more efficient due to the availability of ATV-mounted pesticide applicators. The feeding of livestock has become easier using ATVs for hauling and distributing feed. Mowing smaller fields can be more efficient with ATVs over full size tractors especially in areas with limited access.

There are no laws on the books stating that people of certain sizes need to ride ATV's of certain sizes, but it might be a good idea to get an ATV that matches your body size and is something that you will be able to handle. One example: It wouldn't be smart to put a young 85 pound boy on a 800 or 900cc machine, but rather a 440 to 600cc machine would be an ATV that someone with that type of weight could handle well.

After becoming familiar with your machine comes the fun part, getting out on the trails and practicing. The only way you are going to get better and become experienced with your ATV is by riding it in different situations. Never ride on peoples land without permission from the owner. In the beginning do not get to crazy in your riding style, take it easy and learn the ins and outs of your machine. Always ride with experienced riders, as with any other sport, you will learn from others with more experience. Also no matter how confident you feel on an ATV always ride with someone who is familiar with the trails you will be riding on, in other words never ride alone.

It is recommended that you take the time to receive some training on proper riding techniques on your ATV, especially if you are a complete beginner. Once you feel that you are ready to hit the trails, get some practice in on different types of trails including mud, sand and rocks.

The amount of padding and how well a helmet fits are two of the most important aspects to picking the safest helmet for you. Price and brand often go hand in hand with these aspects of quality but this is not always the case. The primary purpose of padding is to give the helmet a snug fit that keeps it in place without moving. If the helmet that you purchase does not fit correctly, it will provide the best level of protection. Make sure the helmet sits on your head correctly and that it does not pinch at the neck. Whichever helmet you choose, make sure it is Dot certified.

Most stores will have a return policy and it is a good idea to make sure you can return or exchange your helmet if you find that it is not comfortable for an extended period. It is also important to find a helmet that does not move around while wearing it and that is stays in the safest position no matter which way you move.

ATVs Useful Informations

The average individual recognizes Honda as a leading automobile manufacturer; the average ATV rider recognizes the brand as a reliable ATV producer. With all its expertise in the field of auto mechanics, it's not surprising that Honda has received great reviews. With two different categories of vehicles, sport and utility, Honda offers diversity along with durability and dependability. Although they're not without flaws, Honda's ATVs have generally guaranteed satisfaction from both customers who race ATVs and customers who use them for agricultural or farming purposes.

Although many other high end companies such as Suzuki and AlphaSports exist within the ATV industry, Honda, Polaris, and Arctic Cat have proven to be excellent examples of how an ATV should perform. However, before purchasing, one must consider the purposes of buying such a vehicle in order to find a good match. With relatively little research, one would be able to find a satisfying ATV from these brands.

Loading your ATV requires a certain amount of know-how and safety precautions to protect yourself and your equipment from accidents. Here are a few tips for loading and securing your ATV on a truck or trailer.

Load your quad in first gear, or the lowest gear possible to mount the ramps. Avoid jerky starts or stops while on the ramps. Never approach the ramps at high speed. This could cause the ramps to buckle or to ram into the back of the trailer or truck.

For best performance, keep your ATV or truck winch clean and dry. The best way to keep your winch looking and working like new is to keep it clean and keep it covered. Regularly maintaining your winch helps you avoid costly repairs and saves you money in the long run.

Keep It Clean. After a muddy or dirty ride, spool out your cable and either wipe it down or use a hose. Aim the spray at an angle to your rope. A direct spray can lodge dirt and debris deep into the fibers of your cable, but an angled spray nudges dirt out of nooks and crannies and washes it off.Let the rope dry completely before respooling. This is especially important for synthetic rope, as it can become susceptible to rot if its not properly maintained. Steel rope can rust and weaken without proper care, but it tends to be hardier than synthetic rope.Inspect your winch cable before and after every use. Replace the cable at the first sign of damage, such as excessive fraying, spliced wires, or other signs of wear and tear that could cause your cable to snap under load.
